El Lahun, in the Faiyum region, is home to the pyramid of Pharaoh Senusret II, a distinctive Middle Kingdom monument. Constructed with a mudbrick core and limestone casing, it diverged from traditional pyramid design by placing its entrance on the southern side. The site includes a well-organized workers’ village, known as Kahun, which offers a wealth of information on daily life, healthcare, and administration during the 12th Dynasty. The pyramid complex itself includes a mortuary temple and elaborate underground chambers. El Lahun illustrates both architectural innovation and societal organization, reflecting the broader advancements of the Middle Kingdom.
