Dahshur, located south of Saqqara, is home to some of Egypt’s most important early pyramids. Pharaoh Sneferu built both the Bent Pyramid—an unusual structure with a change in slope—and the Red Pyramid, considered Egypt’s first successful true pyramid. These monuments mark a major milestone in pyramid construction, blending experimentation with remarkable engineering. The Bent Pyramid still retains a significant amount of its original casing stones, while the Red Pyramid boasts a grand internal chamber system and perfect geometry. Dahshur also includes later Middle Kingdom pyramids, though these are less well-preserved. The site’s isolated location and towering structures make it a dramatic and historically rich destination.
